Coaching Inspiration
I experienced the power of personal transformation work—observing myself, examining my assumptions and beliefs, taking ownership for the results in my life—in my early thirties, when I joined a friend at a Landmark Education seminar. I’ve been hooked ever since! I was in a Landmark self-expression and leadership seminar and was assigned a coach for the first time. She helped me take bold action in my company. As a relatively unknown technical director, I approached the CEO with my ideas and he made me his right-hand organizational development leader. Having no background in that area per se, my role, and access to the CEO, was met unenthusiastically by PhD high-level leaders. I had to learn how to release my fears, listen openly to feedback, and create trust. Later, as the company shifted focus and priorities, these behaviors helped me have difficult and honest conversations with each leader regarding their position in the company and what choices they wanted to make. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences in my career. It led me to become a leader with a coaching mindset and later to choose coaching as my career.

Where I am from:
I am the sixth of seven children in my family. My parents divorced when I was young and my mom had the single responsibility of raising us. She was amazing, but still, with seven kids a year apart, it was a lot – a bit wild at times. (At 10 years old I gathered up my courage and ran away from home with my basketball and my pillow – but only for an hour or so!) In that mix, I was a gawky, shy girl. As I grew older, I changed physically, but the core of me lacked confidence. Upon graduating high school, I realized I was not surrounded by the best of people. I once again mustered up my courage and went to live with my dad, a colonel in the marine corps. He shaped me up quickly and I moved a year later to go off to college.
Who I am today:
- I take bold actions that scare me.
- I love to bring clarity to what is truly important.
- I strive to support others to find their courage.
- I’ve been married for 34 years and have two grown sons.
- I ensure there is plenty of space for my family.
- Focus on civic issues that are important to me (democracy and climate change).
- I always keep growth in mind and like to surprise myself about what’s next.
Where I am headed:
And that’s an open slate right now. Some days I want the comfort of knowing the who, what, when, and where, but most days I’m letting the wind take me until the path is clear. Coaching will always be a part of my life though, it fulfills me.
